What is it ?

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands-on therapy that looks at how your whole body moves and works together. Using gentle, precise techniques, our osteopaths release tension and improve mobility in your muscles, joints and connective tissue, helping to ease pain and support your body’s natural recovery.
Benefits of osteopathy
  • Natural Pain Relief: Gently treats the root causes of pain without medication, reducing discomfort from back, neck, joint, digestive issues, headaches and more.

  • Improved Mobility & Posture: Restores balance and flexibility to the body, helping correct postural strain and enhance movement.

  • Faster Recovery & Injury Prevention: Supports the body’s healing processes, speeding recovery from injuries and reducing the risk of future problems.

  • Whole-Body Wellbeing: Addresses the interconnection between muscles, joints, nerves, and organs to promote overall physical and emotional health.

  • Ideal for All Ages: Suitable for everyone — from newborns to the elderly — including during pregnancy and postnatal care. We also help babies with colic, torticollis and more

Frequently Asked Questions

New to osteopathy? Here are the questions we’re asked most often. If yours isn’t here, message us on WhatsApp and we’ll be happy to help.

What happens during an osteopathy appointment?

Each session is tailored to you. Your osteopath starts with a thorough assessment and explains what may be causing your symptoms. Treatment is hands-on and may include soft tissue massage, stretching, gentle joint mobilisation and, where appropriate, visceral techniques for abdominal and pelvic comfort. As well as your muscles and joints, your osteopath considers how your circulation, nerves and lymphatic system work together. You’ll leave with practical advice on posture, movement and daily habits to keep you moving well.

Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly with our osteopaths. If you have recent scans or reports, please bring them along.

Is osteopathy painful?
Osteopathy is generally gentle and comfortable. Some techniques may feel firm, and you might feel a little sore for a day or two afterwards, much like after exercise. Your osteopath will always explain what they’re doing and adjust to your comfort.

Can osteopathy help with back pain?
Yes. Back pain is one of the most common reasons people see our osteopaths, from lower back pain and sciatica to stiffness from long days at a desk. Find out more about our back pain treatment in Central and Stanley.

What’s the difference between an osteopath, a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?

All three treat muscle and joint problems. Osteopaths look at how your whole body works together and use a broad range of hands-on techniques, from soft tissue work to gentle joint mobilisation. Many clients combine osteopathy with clinical Pilates or sports massage for longer-lasting results.

What should I wear?

Whatever feels comfortable for you. We can provide shorts and a T-shirt for you to change into before your session, or you’re welcome to wear or bring your own loose clothing, such as shorts or leggings and a T-shirt.

Is osteopathy suitable for all ages?

Yes. Our osteopaths see everyone from newborns to older adults, including during pregnancy and after birth. Treatment is always adapted to your age, comfort and needs, from very gentle techniques for babies to tailored care for active adults and seniors. Find out more about osteopathy for children, baby colic and torticollis and pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Can osteopathy help with neck pain?

Yes. Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people see our osteopaths, from stiffness after a long day at the desk to tension headaches and pain that spreads into the shoulders. Find out more about our neck pain treatment in Central and Stanley.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your symptoms and goals. Your osteopath will discuss a plan with you at your first visit and review your progress as you go.

What types of osteopathy do you offer?

Our osteopaths use a range of approaches and often combine them, depending on your needs:

  • Classic osteopathy: a whole-body approach using rhythmic movement to restore balance and mobility.
  • Structural osteopathy: soft tissue work, stretching and joint mobilisation for pain and stiffness.
  • Visceral osteopathy: gentle techniques around the abdomen and pelvis for digestive and pelvic comfort.
  • Craniosacral osteopathy: very light touch around the head, spine and pelvis, ideal for babies, headaches and stress-related tension.

Can osteopathy help with sports injuries?

Yes. Our osteopaths regularly treat sprains, strains and overuse injuries from running, hiking, tennis, the gym and more, and help you return to your sport safely. Find out more about our sports injury treatment.

Can I book a same-day appointment?
Yes. Same-day appointments are often available at both our Central and Stanley practices in Hong Kong. Message us on WhatsApp to check availability.
