What is it ?

Why does my neck hurt?

Neck pain is one of the most common problems we see, and in a city of long office hours, laptops and phones, it’s easy to see why. Looking down at a screen, sitting for hours and carrying stress in your shoulders all add up, leaving your neck stiff, sore or hard to turn. Most neck pain comes from muscles and joints under strain, rather than anything serious, and it usually responds well to the right care. Sometimes it spreads into the shoulders or upper back, or brings on tension headaches. Our approach looks at how your neck, shoulders, upper back and posture work together, so we can ease the pain now and help stop it coming back.

Neck Pain We Help With

Every neck is different, so your treatment is tailored to your symptoms, work and lifestyle. Here are some of the most common types of neck pain we see.
Desk and Screen Neck:Aching and stiffness from long hours at a laptop or looking down at your phone.
Stiff Neck:Waking up unable to turn your head, or stiffness after sleeping in an awkward position.
Neck and Shoulder Tension:Tight shoulders and upper back, often linked to stress and posture.
Tension Headaches:Headaches that start at the base of the skull or in the neck, often after a long day at a screen.
Neck Pain Down the Arm:Pain, tingling or pins and needles that travels from the neck into the shoulder or arm. We assess where it’s coming from and use gentle techniques to help ease the pressure.
Sports and Gym Strains:Neck strains from lifting, cycling, swimming or contact sports.
Recurring Neck Pain:Pain that keeps coming back. We combine osteopathy with clinical Pilates to build strength and better posture, so you’re less likely to have the next flare-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions we’re asked most often about neck pain. If yours isn’t here, message us on WhatsApp and we’ll be happy to help.

What happens at my first appointment?
Your osteopath starts by asking about your pain, your health and your daily routine, including your work set-up and how you sleep. They then assess how your neck, shoulders and upper back move, explain what’s likely causing your pain and, if osteopathy is right for you, begin treatment in the same session.

Can osteopathy help with a stiff neck?
Yes. Many people come to us when they wake up with a stiff neck or can’t turn their head comfortably. Your osteopath uses gentle techniques to release tension and restore movement, and shows you simple ways to keep your neck moving between visits.

Can neck pain cause headaches?
Yes. Tension in the neck and shoulders often causes headaches that start at the base of the skull or behind the eyes. Easing that tension can help reduce how often they happen.

How can I stop my neck hurting at my desk?
Raise your screen to eye level, keep your shoulders relaxed and take short movement breaks every 30 to 45 minutes. Try not to look down at your phone for long periods. Your osteopath can give you personalised advice for your workspace, and clinical Pilates can help build the strength that supports good posture.

My neck pain goes into my upper back too. Can you help?
Yes. Neck pain often comes with tightness between the shoulder blades or into the lower back. We treat the whole area, not just the sore spot. Find out more about our back pain treatment.

Can massage help with neck pain?
Massage can help ease tight neck and shoulder muscles, and many clients combine osteopathy with sports massage for longer-lasting relief.

My teenager has neck pain from phones and school bags. Do you see children?
Yes. Neck and back pain from screens, growth spurts and heavy school bags is common in teens. Find out more about osteopathy for children.

Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly. If you have recent scans or medical reports, please bring them along.

How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your symptoms and goals. Your osteopath will discuss a plan with you at your first visit and review your progress as you go.

What should I wear?
Whatever feels comfortable for you. We can provide shorts and a T-shirt for you to change into before your session, or you’re welcome to wear or bring your own loose clothing.

Is it covered by insurance?
Many health insurance plans cover osteopathy. Check your policy, and our team can provide receipts for your claim.

Where are you located?
We have two clinics: in Central, at 6/F, 15 On Lan Street, and in Stanley, at G/F, 120 Stanley Main Street.

When should I see a doctor?
Most neck pain isn’t serious, but see a doctor straight away if your neck pain follows a fall or accident, comes with a fever and severe headache, or if you have numbness or weakness in your arms that is getting worse, dizziness, or problems with your vision or balance.
